Proud Day for all of Wales

Mid & West Wales AM, Joyce Watson, was a proud witness to the welcome home reception hosted by First Minister Rhodri Morgan, at the Senedd today.

Joyce Watson AM said

“It was a very emotional and heart-warming reception where thousands of people turned out to greet the Welsh athletes who represented Team GB in Beijing. I was lucky enough to meet and talk with two of the five Olympic Medallists inside the Senedd, Nicole Cooke, the second ever Welshwoman Gold Medallist, and David Davies, Silver Medallist, in the 10km Open Water Marathon.

I felt really privileged to share a rare moment with such achievers and ambassadors for Welsh Sports. They will, undoubtedly, act as role models to future aspiring medallists for London 2012. Their sheer guts and determination demonstrates that it is possible to achieve your dream as long as you remain focussed and are prepared to work hard.

These athletes have shown us what enormous potential is locked inside our young people and I really hope that this will inspire a belief in Welsh youth that will refocus the debate to a positive one.”
