Joyce Watson AM has called on people across Mid and West Wales to recognise the individuals and groups who are making a real difference to the lives of people affected by Multiple Sclerosis in Wales.
The 2009 MS Society Cymru Awards will celebrate the stars of the MS community in Wales.
Mrs Watson said: “Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition that affects people from all types of communities across Wales. It affects around 85, 000 people in the UK.”
“It is often the young in our community who are affected by it, with MS most often being diagnosed in people aged between the ages of 20 and 40. Women are also twice as likely to develop it than men. ”
Speaking on the announcement of the MS Society Cymru Awards she added:
“These awards are vital for recognising the hard work and commitment which people across Wales have shown in helping those affected by MS.”
“They celebrate those that have enriched the lives of people affected by MS, those that have gone beyond the call of duty for people affected by MS and the work of fund raising groups or individuals that have caught people’s imaginations.”
“A special MS Inspiration Award will be given to recognise an individual who has proved an inspiration to the whole MS Community in Wales.”
“I call on people to recognise the hard work and commitment these people have shown to those suffering from MS by nominating them for the MS Cymru award.”
