JOYCE CALLS ON TORIES TO "COME CLEAN" OVER CUTS PLAN

LABOUR Assembly Member Joyce Watson has slammed the Welsh Conservatives and demanded that they “come clean” about their plans to cut public services across Wales.

Speaking after the Assembly Budget debate, the Mid and West Wales AM said people deserved to know the truth about the Conservative Party’s public spending plans.

Mid and West Wales AM JOYCE WATSON, Labour's Rural Affairs spokesperson in the Assembly, said:

“Since the Budget announcement, the Welsh Conservatives have said a lot but told us nothing.
“They talk about public spending cuts - now it’s high time they came clean and told the Welsh public what services they would cut.

“The maxim that to govern is to choose has never been more appropriate. The Labour Government’s Budget was clear. We believe that we have to invest our way out of this recession and that’s what the Budget delivers. To be fair, the Tory party has given us an idea about what they would do — cut, slash and chop away at public services.”

Joyce turned her attack on David Cameron and George Osborne:

“David Cameron has announced a return to “traditional” Tory public spending controls. He has said he wants “more for less”. We remember what the Welsh economy and Welsh public services were like under the last Tory government—it was less for less, not more!

“Mr Cameron has failed to comment on their rising star Daniel Hannan’s description of the NHS as a “sixty year mistake” which had “made us iller”. How safe does that make our health services feel?

“George Osborne has refused to rule out cuts to vital public services. He has suggested that areas like education would bear the brunt of zealous spending cuts. But still they refuse to say what services they would strip bear or scrap altogether.

“We deserve to know what the Tories have planned, and I call on them to enlighten the people of Wales now.”
