Joyce campaigns to help victims of human trafficking for sex trade in Wales

Labour Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales JOYCE WATSON AM is campaigning to help the victims of human trafficking for the sex trade in Wales.

She has set up and chairs the National Assembly for Wales Cross-party Group on the trafficking of women and children.

Joyce Watson AM said:

“I am appalled that 200 years after the abolition of slavery we now have women and children living in desperate conditions in communities right throughout Wales.

“Amnesty International’s recent report Under the Covers Under the covers: Trafficking for sexual exploitation in Wales showed that trafficking is not confined to urban centres but is also seen in small communities across the country.

“This evil trade must be combatted, and its innocent victims must be helped.

“Our Cross-party Group will bring whatever pressure we can to bear to stamp out this trade in human misery.”

Joyce has also written an Assembly statement of opinion calling on the National Assembly for Wales to recognise White Ribbon Day and support the White Ribbon Campaign for the Eradication of Violence against Women. Wearing a White Ribbon is symbolic of the commitment to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
She lit a candle at Llandaff Cathedral at a service to commemorate the International Day to end violence against women on Friday 23rd November.
