Joyce welcomes investment in new Heart Unit

A new £2m cardiac unit which will treat patients from Ceredigion, Powys and south Gwynedd has opened at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth.

The Labour-led Welsh Assembly Government gave more money to the project when fears were raised that other hospital services might be cut to fund the unit.

The 18-bed ward includes single en-suite rooms and specialist beds.

Labour Assembly Member for Cardiganshire JOYCE WATSON AM said:

“This brand new unit with its specialist equipment will help medical staff provide the highest quality of care for the patients it will serve.

“This unit has benefited from the record investment that this Labour-led Government has given to the NHS in Wales after years of Tory neglect.

“This long-awaited goal has now become a reality for local people.”

Minister for Health and Social Services EDWINA HART said:

“The NHS across Wales has seen significant investment in new buildings and equipment in recent years to help improve care for patients and the working environment for staff.”
