Environment and Sustainability Minister, Jane Davidson, today met Cardiff Cycle Couriers who are helping to reduce the Welsh Assembly Government’s carbon footprint as part of Bike Week.
The cycle couriers will start a trial period next week of delivering documents between the Assembly Government buildings in Cardiff and could eventually replace the van used for many deliveries at the moment.
Ms Davidson said: “This is another way that we as an organisation can contribute to the fight against climate change by reducing our carbon emissions. If more people walk and cycle across Wales it will help reduce their dependence on the car, and contribute to cutting CO2 emissions which are causing Climate Change. We all need to reduce our carbon footprint, and cycling can help to make a real difference. With the cost of motoring on the rise, cycling is a cheap, healthy, and sustainable means of transport.”
Bike Week, the UK's annual 'Celebration of Cycling' takes place between 14-22 June 2008. Government funded with support from the cycle industry, Bike Week aims to get 'More People Cycling More Often'. Cardiff Cycle Couriers have been awarded the contract to provide the delivery service for the Welsh Assembly Government, and are now expanding the service delivery to the Ministerial Services Division.
