Devastating cuts by the Westminster coalition have been labelled “dangerous and irresponsible” by a Labour Assembly Member.
Joyce Watson AM claims that cuts to public spending announced by the Conservative – Liberal Democrat coalition could ruin communities across Wales. Mrs Watson believes that Chancellor George Osborne’s request that government departments prepare for cuts of up to 40% could have substantial implications for Wales.
Joyce Watson, who is a Labour Member for Mid and West Wales, said:
“Everyone will suffer as a result of these cuts. To give just one example of the implications, I have had correspondence from one police force that they will be forced to reduce their frontline services.
“These cuts will lead to a drop in the number of police and teachers. When you combine this with the fact that the Tories have already abandoned broadband services for rural Wales, it is clear that they have no interest in protecting individuals and businesses during these very challenging times.”
