Jobs at Llanelli car parts plant safe for now

Workers at the ThyssenKrupp Tallent car parts plant in Felinfoel who had been warned they could lose their jobs have been told they are safe for at least a year.

When potential job losses were first announced in 2008, I met staff at the plant and arranged a meeting between managers and the Deputy First Minister.

Following the meeting, the Assembly Government launched the ProAct scheme, which enables companies to apply for a grant so that employees who would otherwise be made redundant or put on short-time working can receive training.

Thyssen Krupp secured the ProAct support in April.
