Domestic violence campaigner backs new way to protect women from violence

Joyce Watson AM is backing a simple new way to support Welsh Women's Aid.

Mrs Watson, who is a long term campaigner to protect women and children against the threat of violence, is working with sportsmen to highlight how unacceptable domestic abuse is ahead of White Ribbon Day next month.

Welsh Women's Aid has linked up with JustGiving.com to make it easier for supporters to help them. JustGiving.com allows people to collect sponsorship money online quickly, easily and securely.

Joyce Watson AM said: "Domestic violence is unacceptable in a modern society, and I have been pleased to raise money for Welsh Women's Aid to support their work supporting families fleeing attack through my white ribbon campaign.

"I welcome any moves to raise money for this vital work, and I urge people to take advantage of this new service. There are lots of sponsored events to choose from on JustGiving.com, but if you don't like any of them you could organise your own. If you can't spare the time but would still like to help, there is a donation facility on the page too."

Each year Welsh women's aid groups support over 4,000 women and children who have experienced domestic abuse.
