Rosemary Phillips of Swansea will join Amie Grover of Fishguard in a visit to the Assembly at the invitation of Mid and West Wales AM, JOYCE WATSON.
Local AM JOYCE WATSON met "a true inspiration to young women," Rosemary Phillips, during her visit to see the construction of Leonard Cheshire’s new Disability Care Home with Nursing in Johnstown, Carmarthen. This is now nearing completion and is being built to replace the existing facility of their Coomb home.
Rosemary is a plumbing student at Coleg Sir Gar, Ammanford campus, and works for Dawnus Construction Ltd at Sainsbury Heating. She has nearly completed her Level 3 examinations and is now finishing her studies. She was her college’s Student of the Year last year. Rosemary grew up on a farm and two of her sisters are butchers.
Joyce said: "It was a delight to meet Rosemary. She is a true inspiration and role model to young women.” Rosemary will meet Amie Grover, this year's winner of the annual Joyce Watson bursary for second chance students, who is also training to be a plumber at Pembrokeshire college.
“I have no doubt that they will both share some great stories and experiences and it will be an opportunity for them to speak to another woman who shares an aspiration to become a plumber.”
Jane Hutt, Minister for Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, has agreed to meet both women at the Senedd and listen to their experience.
Mrs Hutt said: “I wish Amie and Rosemary every success in their plumbing careers. These two young women have chosen rewarding careers, and I will be interested to hear how they are progressing.”
