Supporting shopworkers’ union USDAW’s Freedom from Fear campaign, Joyce called in to Tesco Extra in Haverfordwest to speak to shop stewards about their local experiences.
They briefed the local AM that the main problems were with young people becoming difficult once they had been asked to provide ID to buy alcohol.
Joyce said: “I’m pleased that so many Pembrokeshire people are treating shopworkers with the courtesy they deserve.
“However incidents of young people becoming abusive while claiming to be older to get alcohol are unacceptable.”
USDAW shop steward Polly Jones said: “Shopworkers are shoppers too, and we try to treat people with respect. Most of our customers are fine, but people don’t realise how unpleasant verbal abuse can be.”
