JOYCE WATSON, Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, has praised Gordon Brown's address to the Labour Party Conference in Manchester and backed the Prime Minister as, "the serious man Britain needs to see it through the serious times".
The AM said that only Labour, in Westminster and in Wales, had the right policies to support people through the tough economic climate.
Mrs Watson highlighted key points in the Prime Minister’s address:
"Access to good quality childcare is vital to help parents participate in work or education, so I was delighted to hear Gordon commit to extending free nursery places for two year-olds and providing affordable childcare for all.
“With our Assembly Government's recent commitment to provide free childcare for two-year-olds in some of Wales' most disadvantaged areas, Labour is on the side of hard working families.
"Internet, broadband and digital access are challenges for many communities in rural Wales so the pledge to fund over a million extra families to get online is important.
“In this, the 60th year of the NHS, I think the introduction of free universal health check-ups for everyone over 40 next April will have a dramatic impact on our public health.
“This is the leadership and these are the policies that Britain deserves.”
