Horticultural education secured in North Wales

The long-term future of horticultural education in North Wales has been secured - Deputy Minister for Skills John Griffiths announced today.

After consideration, it has been decided that the Welsh College of Horticulture’s FE and Work Based Learning provision will be transferred to Deeside College and NEWI will establish higher education provision alongside it at the Northop site. This will ensure the successful continuation and development of land based and horticulture studies in Wales. The decision is a joint one between the Governing bodies of the institutions involved. The Welsh Assembly Government fully supports this decision as the right way forward for the Welsh College of Horticulture.

The merger will guarantee high quality further education will be available in North Wales and will bring in cutting edge higher education and research capabilities ensuring positive progression for learners.

This merger is great news and has secured the future of specialised land based and horticulture education provision in Wales.”
