Joyce Watson AM welcomed plans for a national cycle training standard across Wales as part of a bid to improve safety and the take-up of cycling amongst children and young people.
The Welsh Assembly Government will be investing £250,000 to train more than 100 instructors to teach the new standards across Wales.
Mid and West Wales AM JOYCE WATSON said:
"The Assembly Government is committed to encouraging more people to cycle as a regular means of transportation.
"Safety is of course paramount, so we need to be providing access to qualified instructors who can deliver cycle training to a consistent standard that prepares children and adults to cycle on today’s roads.
"Cycling has so many benefits. It is an environmentally sound way of getting around, and with petrol prices as they are it is a good way of cutting back on spending. And of course the health benefits are enormous."
