Joyce takes Assembly action to tackle ‘modern day slavery’ in Wales

Labour Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales JOYCE WATSON has set up the All-party Assembly group on Trafficking Women and Children in Wales.

Its first meeting will be at 6pm tonight (Wednesday 12th March) in the National Assembly for Wales, where they will decide their programme of work and take evidence from Jan Pickles of the Women's Safety Unit.

JOYCE WATSON AM said:

“The trafficking of women and children is a modern form of slavery and I am determined that it should be stamped out across Wales.

“This is not just an issue for our cities but for our towns and communities across Mid and West Wales, and I want this group to find out the extent of the problem in order to tackle it more effectively.

“The people who trade in people’s misery have no place in Welsh society and should be punished severely.

“I am pleased that members of all political parties are coming together to fight this issue, and I look forward to the group’s important work.”
