JOYCE WATSON AM is highlighting a booklet which illustrates how people in the UK can help the victims of the recent cyclone in Burma and the earthquake in China.
Prepared by the Welsh Assembly Government in conjunction with the UK Department for International Development, the booklet Disasters and Emergencies Overseas - How You Can Help sets out what happens immediately following a major disaster and how the UK responds. It shows how people can help victims in the short and long term and lists contact points for those wanting to help.
Labour Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales JOYCE WATSON AM said:
"Few can fail to have been moved by the terrible images on our TV screens from both disasters. It is hard not to feel powerless to make a difference when we see the scale of these events, yet we all can play our part if we wish to.
"This booklet sets out practical advice and contacts to help us give the best support we can for the relief efforts."
How you can help:
- Phone the Disasters Emergency Committee on 0870 60 60 900 to contribute to the Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone Appeal.
- Watch for advertisements and announcements in the national media from agencies responding to the earthquake in China.
