JOYCE CONGRATULATES NEW NATIONAL CHEF OF WALES - “Neil has put us on the culinary map”

Labour Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales JOYCE WATSON AM congratulated Neil Roberts, chef landlord of The Waggon and Horses, Newtown for becoming the first National Chef of Wales winner from Mid Wales.

The 43-year-old chef won after a cook-off where he had to devise and cook a four course menu in three hours from a mystery black box of ingredients, which included some True Taste of Wales award winning products.

JOYCE WATSON AM said:

"I must congratulate Neil on beating such stiff competition to win this coveted prize.

“Many of our local pubs serve food to rival the top hotels, and our Welsh ingredients are among the finest in the world - now Neil has put us on the culinary map.

"Having run pubs in Mid Wales serving locally sourced food I know some of the challenges that Neil and his wife Jackie face, and how hard he will have worked to achieve this success.

"Small businesses like his deserve all our support, and I look forward to visiting The Waggon and Horses to sample his cooking.”

The biannual National Chef of the Year contest is organised by the Welsh Culinary Association (WCA) and sponsored jointly by the Welsh Assembly Government and Hybu Cig Cymru / Meat Promotion Wales.
