£47.8m boost for rural Wales

The Welsh Assembly Government today announced a significant funding to boost rural communities across Wales, worth £47.8 million over the next three years.

The Rural Development Plan funding will support projects across Wales which support innovation in, and diversification of, the rural economy. Projects encouraging tourism activities and heritage restoration have been prioritised in this round of funding. They range from outdoor pursuit facilities to specialist food production and vegetable oil-powered buses.

Vital business development services will also be provided within the funding to enable the diversification. 18 Local Partnerships in Wales submitted funding applications for projects demonstrating contributions to the aims of the Rural Development Plan. These projects were then approved by the Welsh Assembly Government. (See table below). Alongside diversification the Rural Development Plan aims to improve basic services in rural areas, village renewal, development and training, vital components in ensuring that quality of life improves in rural areas.
