Labour Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales JOYCE WATSON AM enjoyed meeting representatives of the Welsh Scouts Council during their recent visit to the Assembly.
Joyce, who has herself volunteered with local scouting activities, said:
“I was delighted to meet representatives of the Welsh Scouts Council during their visit to the Senedd.
“Their Kids Outdoors initiative is an excellent way to get young people away from their computer games and enjoying our beautiful countryside.
“It is timely at their Centenary to be reminded of the good work they do across our communities, which they should be praised for.
“I am a long-time supporter of the Scouting and Guiding movements. When I was an Assistant Beaver Leader in the early ‘90s it was wonderful to see young people helping others at such a young age.
“Scouting is a great activity for our young people and plays a strong role in our health of our local towns and villages. As well as being great fun it teaches a range of useful skills and how to work in groups.”
The scouts visited the Senedd with The Welsh Scout Council to talk to Assembly Members about the outdoor activities they had undertaken as members of Cub Scouting. The Cub Scouts has also set up a healthy eating display and offered Assembly Members fruit salad and healthy vegetable dips.
The theme for the day was the new Scout Association initiative Kids Outdoors, which encourages young people to undertake a more active, healthy lifestyle and encourages them to enjoy the outdoors.
