Joyce said: “I am delighted for Andrew, but I must declare an interest – Andrew is a close friend of my husband Wally.”
Andrew Grey of Little Haven is also involved with the Pembrokeshire Under-11 rugby team.
She added: “I hope Andrew will come and visit me in the Senedd in the new year, where my Assembly colleagues will join me in congratulating him.”
Joyce, who sits on the Assembly Communities, Culture and Sport Committee has raised the issue of support for grass roots rugby with First Minister Rhodri Morgan.
Joyce added: “The work which Andrew does makes all the difference to our youngsters. Team sports build confidence, encourage fitness and enhance our communities.
“And with the London Olympics coming, Andrew may be training the stars of the future.
“We all know we have talented youngsters in Pembrokeshire and we must praise Andrew and all the other volunteers who give up their time to help our next generation achieve their best potential.”
